Specialized Foster Parent Training Classes

Our training classes are designed to assist you in providing a therapeutic, structured, nurturing environment for the children in your home. By doing this you will allow a child that is hurting to begin on the road to healing. Issues that are common with children in foster care will be discussed at length in an effort to provide you the education necessary to lovingly raise and care for your children. Classes meet on Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:30pm. Please call for a current class schedule.

 

PRE-CERTIFICATION TRAINING OUTLINE

Session 1:	Orientation Into Foster Parenting
Session 2:	Developmental Issues, Including Attachment Difficulties
Session 3:	Appropriate Discipline Techniques, Limit Setting and Behavioral Contracting
Session 4:	Communication, Anger Management and Conflict Resolution
Session 5:	Foster Family Panel
Session 6:	Clinical Issues & Medication Protocol/Side Effects
Session 7:	Setting Up Your Home, Record Keeping and the Client File
Session 8:	Identifying and Understanding Child Abuse and Neglect
Session 9:	Crisis Issues: NAI Protocol, Suicide, Assaultive Behaviors, Drugs & Alcohol
Session 10:	In-Home Child Specific Training

All NAI foster parents are required to be certified in First Aid and CPR. Water Safety Certification is required in order to supervise a child around bodies of water.
