Foster Parent Training Certification Requirements:
- Be willing to
provide structure, love, and support constistently meeting all the individual needs of
each child.
- Stable home environment:
that includes being loving, nurturing, live in a family friendly neighborhood, financially and emotionally stable.
- Over 21, compassionate,
flexible, consistent, mature, able to communicate.
- Willing to comply with
all State Regulations, New
Alternatives Policies, and San Diego County
regulations.
- All adults/caretakers attend
pre-certification trainings.
- All adults living in the home must have
a current physical and TB test.
- Everyone over 18 in the home must be
fingerprinted and must clear through Community Care
Licensing, the Department of Justice, and the Federal Bureau of Investigations.
- Be willing to acknowledge and abide by
client's personal rights.
- Have a vehicle with a valid drivers license,
automobile insurance, and be willing to transport the youth to/from appointments.
- Telephone in home.
- Adequate living space to accommodate a youth. Children can only share a room with
other children, maximum two per room.
- Primary caretaker attends 20
hours minimum per year in-service/support training and secondary
caretaker completes 12 hours minimum per year. Parents are highly encouraged to attend the topic support group in their region as means to meet training requirements and to network with other NAI parents.
- Adult supervision of all youth is required.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification
is required for all adults. Water Safety Certification is required in some
circumstances and highly recommended.
- Be available for weekly home visits
with the New Alternatives Social Worker assigned to your home.
