New Alternatives, Inc.
Agency Philosophy New Alternatives, Inc. (NAI) is dedicated to the right of children to grow and develop as healthy, happy, successful and contributing individuals. we will provide comprehensive psychological treatment to victims of child abuse and their families in an effort to halt the documented recurring generational cycle of abuse and prevent and heal the devastating emotional effects of abuse both in terms of the victim and the family.
Our therapeutic approach is based on the theory and methods of humanistic psychology, including the concepts of personal growth, self-actualization and a positive, optimistic view of the human condition. Our goals for our clients include a development of self-awareness that leads to self-esteem and the ability of self-management.
Philosophically, the individual "has the capacity to guide, regulate and control himself, providing only that certain definable conditions exist...When the individual is provided with reasonable conditions for growth, he will develop his potential constructively." (Carl Rogers, 1951) In addition, the orientations of Rollo May and Abraham Maslow have been incorporated into the treatment philosophy.
New Alternatives, Inc. begins with a thorough understanding of the individual's fears and needs. Emphasis is placed on the need to be loved, to show love, to have an arena for personal growth and personal expression.
Through this positive and optimistic design, self-esteem, confidence and self-respect will develop and grow.
